Reports had surfaced that Barcelona is interested to sign Neymar.  Neymar used to play for Barcelona before he made a move to Paris Saint Germain for €222 million in 2017.

However, the Spannish giants have not been the same in Europe since Neymar left the La Liga side.

This comes despite their good form at home, hence making it obvious that Barcelona needs Neymar to shine outside of Spain.

According to Diario Gol, Neymar’s return would see Barcelona paying Paris Saint Germain a transfer fee of €80 million in addition to Philippe Coutinho’s transfer to the French side.

The Spanish news agency said that the deal is linked to Barcelona’s current captains’ demand who wants the Catalan side to make an important signing during the summer transfer window as he is said to be astonished by how Real Madrid had made three major signings already.

It was fruther reported that the Argentine wants Neymar to rejoin Barcelona.  However, with Neymar being the most expensive football player in the world at €220 million, the chances seem unlikely as there Barcelona is unlikely to splash that amount of cash for the 27 year olf.

The option Barcelona is considering is offering Coutinho plus €80 million to Paris Saint Germain to ensure the deal comes through.

It is a known fact that Barcelona is keen to offload Coutinho.

Despite the specifics however, I do feel that Barcelona would unlikely sign Neymar this summer considering he is currently injured with a ruptured ligament. The injury will need four weeks to heal and more time for rehabilitation.

More importantly, Neymar would miss out on three UEFA Champions League matches next season.

His poor disciplinary record in the tournament had caused him to gain a three match ban which he needs to serve at the start of the Champions League season.

This directly hampers Barcelona’s immediate reason to sign the Brazillian, making their European hopes in jeopardy.

Nonetheless, with Neymar reported by Sport to be unmotivated in Paris, anything could happen, including the return of Neymar to Barcelona.
