MATCH PREVIEW: Bayern Munich vs. Liverpool

After a staunch battle that resulted in a goalless draw in the first leg at Anfield, Bayern Munich will be hoping to make us of their home advantage when they face Liverpool in the Allianz Arena for Wednesday’s Champions League clash.
Liverpool managed to keep Bayern Munich at bay during the first leg. In that match, Niko Kovac’s men did not register a single shot on target. Liverpool was happy not to concede an away goal.
The Champions League last-16 tie between Bayern Munich and Liverpool remains one of the most anticipated clashes, as the game is still very open.
Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich topped their group in a not so convincing fashion. In Liverpool, they face a formidable attack and a solid defense. It would be interesting to see how Bayern Munich approaches the game on the second leg. Bayern would be happy with the first leg result, even though they didn’t score.
Mane missed some clear opportunities to score and Joel Matip also squandered a chance. Bayern produced an amazing defensive display.
Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski, will cause Liverpool problems, as he has scored 23 goals in his last 22 Champions League games at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern is going to be without Thomas Muller, who sent off for a harsh tackle on Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico in the final round of group matches. Right-back, Joshua Kimmich is also suspended.
Rafinha is expected to fill in for Kimmich on the right flank. While on the left flank, David Alaba is a fitness doubt.
Liverpool
Liverpool comes into this game after losing the top spot of the Premier League table to Manchester City. Liverpool clearly wants to win the League, but will also prioritize the Champions League.
Klopp will certainly not want to lose in Bavaria, because a loss will definitely eliminate the team. Liverpool has lost three games in a row away in the Champions League. They lost to Napoli, Red Star Belgrade and Paris Saint-Germain in the group phase.
Virgil van Dijk is back for Liverpool after missing the first leg due to suspension. Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are the only injury absentees for Liverpool.
