Historic Piala Malaysia finals ever played

The Piala Malaysia is a historic tournament and during its long history, some matches stood out.
Here are three matches that stood out the most in the Piala Malaysia finals.
Pahang FA vs JDT FC in 2014
A classic Piala Malaysia final which saw Pahang win the coveted trophy by defeating JDT 5-3 through penalties in 2014. The match itself saw Pahang take a lead in the match through Dickson Nwakaeme before Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Luciano Figeroa scored one each to put JDT ahead in the match. Nwakaeme leveled the scored after JDT were reduced to ten men, pushing the match into extra time and finally penalties, with Pahang showing true grit by winning the shootout.
Negeri Sembilan FA vs Terengganu FA in 2011
One of the most intense finals of the Piala Malaysia would be the match between Negeri Sembilan versus Terengganu in 2011. Ashari Shamsuddin had put Terengganu ahead in the 60th minute, but a mistake from Terengganu goalkeeper Sharbinee Alawee enabled S. Kunalan to equalize in the 80th to put both teams’ level. With less than five minutes on the clock, Hairuddin Omar spotted an opportunity in the box and blasted in a beautiful bicycle kick to bring home the championship for his Negeri Sembilan side with a 2-1 victory.
Brunei vs Sarawak FA in 1999
Brunei created history by winning the Piala Malaysia in 1999 when they defeated neighbors Sarawak 2-1 at Stadium Merdeka. The match itself created history when it was the first time two sides from Borneo featured in the finals making it the first time the coveted trophy would be won by a side from Borneo. The match started promising with Rosli Liman scoring the opening goal in the 35th minute for Brunei. Ramles Sari equalized in the 40th minute for Sarawak by dribbling past two defenders to put both teams’ level at half time. However, Rosli struck again and made impact in the 51st minute by scoring the winner for Brunei, ensuring that the trophy travels to Brunei for the very first time.
