Sarawak football is not without its glory years.   The team had been on a decline since 2017, but this does not mean that they were always in such a state.

History records that Sarawak football fans are proudest of their team during several years, and this is
reflected by the silverware they had won, and the amount of support they had gained in the past.
The success of the Sarawak FA team is usually marked with the head coach’s name and it is well
embodied in history that these head coaches are legendary figures in the Sarawak football fans name.
Here are the top 3
The Awang Mahyan era
The Awang Mahyan era saw the surge in support for the Sarawak football scene. During this time,
Sarawak football was followed like a cult with Mahyan himself doing several publicity stunts and dares
to further promote the resurging Sarawak football.

The Alan Vest era

While Vest’s era only managed one silverware, his tenure marked the start of Sarawak being feared in
the Malaysian football scene. Not only was Sarawak difficult to play against, their hitman, Samsurin
Abdul Rahman and John Hunter were making headlines in the national sports sections for their fierce
partnership. The era hit SAW Sarawak win the 1992 FA Cup championship, before hitting its pinnacle in
1998 with the Liga Perdana, which was the top football league of Malaysia then. Later in 1999, the
Sarawak FA team lifted the Piala Sumbangsih, making Vest’s era the most successful in Sarawak football
history.

The Robert Alberts era

Alberts ended Sarawak’s 13 year wait for a championship by winning the Liga Premier 2013 league title.
Not only did he manage to secure such an important feat that promoted Sarawak FA to the top football
league in Malaysia, his feat also saw Sarawak FA go undefeated in the Liga Premier for the whole
campaign, earning them the title as ‘ The invincible’. Albert’s triumph marked the first silverware in this
digital age.
