Henry’s return to his boyhood club as coach was a predictable disaster. Even Monaco knew that appointing him as their coach was a huge gamble, but they were willing to risk it for maybe sentimental reasons.

Henry’s sack was mainly due to Monaco’s poor performance in the League, but what led to their poor performance and why is Henry to be blamed for his sacking.

The first reason was a large number of injured players at the club, and that did not work in his favour. At least, 12 players from the first-team were out injured at critical times in the League. One vital player who was injured was Rony Lopes. Lopes scored 14 goals in the second half of last season.

Another reason why Monaco wasn’t performing well was the lack of squad depth; Henry tried to bring in a couple of players in his squad before he was sacked. Players such as  Naldo, Cesc Fàbregas and Fodé Ballo-Touré. But Henry could have solved some issues and play better with Monaco, he had talented players in his squad and inherited a high performing team in the French Ligue one.

Henry is to blame due to his lack of maturity. He acted immature on many occasions and made a lot of bizarre decisions while coaching Monaco. For example,  after a disappointing 3-1 home defeat to Metz in the French Cup.  Henry said he wanted to demote several first-team players to the Monaco reserves. He didn’t for a moment think of his side’s injury woes, but one he was set on taking his decision. He later said the reason was that he needed “hungry” players.

Not only was his overbearing attitude and immaturity the cause of his downfall, but his seeming lack of professionalism can also be cited. A lot of reports from Monaco’s training ground mentioned his poor professionalism during training. Henry regularly axed players from the first eleven, changed their tactics frequently and the roles of various players.

Now that he has been sacked, he can hopefully learn from his failed stint at coaching.
