The biggest stadiums in Malaysia

Thanks to the development of football matches in Malaysia, stadiums have been built to cater for the sport in almost every part of the country.
While football dedicated stadiums are slowly the trend for the sport with the opening of the Tun Razak Stadium and soon to be completed Johor Darul Ta’zim Stadium, most Malaysian football teams continue to play their league matches in multipurpose stadiums which include athletic tracks.
With that said, below are the three biggest stadiums in Malaysia and some facts about it.
Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium
Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium is the only massive stadium which seats above 50,000 spectators outside of the Klang Valley in Malaysia. Constructed at the cost of RM270 million, the stadium is the centerpiece of the Terengganu Sports Complex and was opened in time for the 2008Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA). Named after the reigning Terengganu Ruler, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, the stadium is primarily used by football teams within Terengganu for matches in the Liga Malaysia.
Stadium Shah Alam
The Stadium Shah Alam is the second biggest stadium in Malaysia with 80,372 seats. Opened in 1994, the stadium cost RM480 million to build and its design is inspired by Hajduk Split stadium, Poljud. The Stadium Shah Alam frame structure keeps the record of the longest free-standing arc in the world. Used primarily for football, the stadium is considered the second home of the Malaysian National team due to its size and proximity to Stadium Bukit Jalil.
Stadium National Bukit Jalil
The Stadium National Bukit Jalil was officially opened on 11 July 1998 and was the main stage for the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Built at the cost of of RM800 million, the 87,411-seater stadium is the biggest stadium in Malaysia by capacity, and the second biggest stadium in South East Asia. In 2017, Stadium National Bukit Jalil was used to host the SEA Games. To date, the stadium is the 21st biggest football stadium in the world and its recent renovation added a new Populous-designed façade. The stadium is used primarily for football and is the main home of the Malaysian National football team.
