Manager David Wagner admits it will be tough for Huddersfield to beat relegation this season but insists they will continue to fight.

The West Yorkshire outfit were heavily fancied to make an immediate return to the Championship at the end of last season but defied the odds to secure a second campaign in the top-flight.

Once again they have been tipped to lose their spot in the Premier League and Wednesday’s loss to Burnley piled further pressure on the players.

Huddersfield, who are priced at 1.08 to be relegated, sit rock bottom of the division after falling to an eighth consecutive defeat, despite taking the lead at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Chris Woods and Ashley Barnes netted for the Clarets to cancel out Steve Mounie’s early strike, which leaves Huddersfield eight points from safety.

Wagner acknowledges his side face an uphill battle to stave off relegation but the German is refusing to go down without a fight.

“We know that, statistically, no team has survived in the Premier League from this points level at this stage, but we’ve beaten a lot of stats before,” Wagner said.

“We continue. We know what we have to do between now and the end of the season. The table tells the truth at this stage of the season, but the commitment, effort and attitude is still absolutely there from the players.

“We’re disappointed, but we believe and carry on.”

Huddersfield go up against another relegation candidate when they return to league action at Cardiff on January 12.
