how to improve Sarawak Football

If you look at social media, you’d notice that most fans are complaining about the management of the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) and indirectly the Sarawak FA team.

However, the problem doesn’t sometime stem from FAS, but Sarawakians and indirectly the system itself.

This is since many of those complaining aren’t willing to take up the managerial challenge in improving Sarawak football.  There’s three types of Sarawak football fans in general.

Most go into the first group, preferring to sit in the comfort of their homes watching football, only to complaint about results when it’s not positive.

The second group wants to participate and make change, but commitments bond them to become observers, disappointed of decisions made by those in charge when it happens.

There’s a third group that is willing to get involve, but politics within the association, which includes difficulty to move up the ranks unless one ‘has strong cables’ are limiting their chances, and moving them to the sidelines.

All three groups of individuals end up unwilling to take chances to get involved in managing football at higher levels hence the dwindle in proper ideas and decision makers where it matters most, the Football Association of Sarawak.

This has caused Sarawak football to be left in the hands of a selected few whom maybe doesn’t know the game as good as they think, or is only there because there is nobody else wanting the job.

Such individuals are likely to make poor decisions when it comes to management of football as they would only be focused on certain aspects of the game, while unintentionally neglecting others.

On top of that, they would also will likely disregard the true core of the game, which is to stick to tradition of a club and lead with passion, shedding tones of money in the process.

All these creates a poor environment in how football is managed in Sarawak.

While Sarawak has plenty of talented players, there is a huge void in good and daring football club managerial people which are key in planning what could be done for football in Sarawak.

The current modern football management style only adds to the difficulty in finding the right person to make massive changes within the FA, and hence advancing Sarawak football to where it should be.

This can be seen in the FAS today seems to be struggling to adapt to modern football management, and is having difficulty in retaining or even finding ‘stars’ within Sarawak, only to see teams like JDT ‘snatch’ them away at early ages.

That said, it is only when the right people, with the right passion and motivation, get into the top post, can real change happen in Sarawak football.

Else, the whole Sarawak football scene would forever be like a huge big roulette.
