There is no doubt that when it comes to football, Sabahans are highly linked to Sarawak FA.

While the reason of this is unknown, Sabahan football players seem to excel when they play with Sarawak, making not only immediate impact, but even given the captain’s armband as they mature into senior players.

With that in mind, these are the three best Sabahan players that had played with Sarawak and some details on what they had achieved with Sarawak.

RONNY HARUN

Ronny is considered a living legend among Sarawak football fans.  Although he had played for Sabah in the earlier days of his career, Ronny really shined when he was with Sarawak.  His no-nonsense tackles at the heart of the Sarawak defences have earned him the nick name ‘tank’. The veteran defender was also voted Best Asian Football Federation Award XI when he was playing with Sarawak and was even given the captains armband in 2017.

BOBBY CHUA

Bobby moved to Sarawak from Sabah for just RM1 in 2000.  His controversial moved was however forgotten as he made massive impact with Sarawak by scoring 21 goals in 88 appearances for Sarawak during his six-year spell with the Crocs.

BOBBY GONZALES

Bobby Gonzales has transferred into Sarawak four times, two of which were on loan.  With Sarawak, he amassed a total of 64 goals from 84 appearances, making him one of Sarawak’s deadliest strikers of all times.  In 2013, Bobby was the Liga Premier’s top local scorer with Sarawak and he repeated that feat last year as well despite Sarawak’s poor position in the league.  Currently still with Sarawak, Bobby will likely go down as a legend in Sarawak as he is still scoring at will for Sarawak.  Today, Bobby is the captain of Sarawak football team, signalling his importance in the Sarawak side which is largely made of local Sarawakians.
