Sabah FA had moved up to the top of the Liga Premier over the weekend, surpassing Johor Darul Ta’zim II, putting them in the lead of the Liga Premier for the very first time this season.

Johor Darul Ta’zim II were expected to secure the full three points against bottom half team Sarawak FA but found the Crocs harder to tame in Larkin.

This resulted in the favourites dropping precious points at home which led to their demotion from the top of the standings on goal differences with Sabah.

Now, all eyes are on Sabah as the Rhinos march to enhance their footing as league leaders, and possible champions of the Liga Premier.

Last weekend’s 2-0 win over Pulau Pinang FA gave Sabah their fourth win in the Liga Premier, making them undefeated for six matches to date.

While there are still not less than 13 matches to be played, Sabah do look good to continue their fine run in the Liga Premier as morale in the team is high, and injuries to their main team have been low.

Key to Sabah’s resurgence is their ability to score which sees the North Borneo side having the second most goals scored to date.

But Sabah will have their title hopes in jeopardy in the coming weeks as they are scheduled to meet UiTM FC next.

UiTM boast of the best attack in the Liga Premier, and this title contenders have only been defeated once so far this season in all competitions.

After the UiTM match, Sabah then face another difficult opponent in Selangor United which is on a winning streak of late.

Both UiTM and Selangor are third and fourth in the league currently and they can overtake Sabah if Sabah drops points.

However, shall Sabah win both matches, they would not only gain a healthy lead in the Liga Premier standings but also put themselves on course to the valuable automatic promotion to the Liga Super next season.
