Memphis Grizzlies star Mike Conley wants his side to demonstrate a “sense of urgency” when they head to Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.

The Grizzlies face Portland in the third game of a five-game road swing and are seeking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat at Los Angeles Lakers.

Memphis claimed an impressive win at Los Angeles Clippers prior to their loss against the Lakers.

The Grizzlies managed to fight back at the Staples Center after trailing by 22 points at one stage but the Lakers held on to claim a 107-102 win, and point guard Conley says they cannot afford a sluggish start against the Blazers.

“We just waited too long to have a sense of urgency,” said Conley.

“We have to do better, especially on the second of back-to-back games. We didn’t start the way we wanted to.

You can’t spot any team in this league that many points. We didn’t have what it took early on.”

Memphis are currently fourth in the Western Conference standings and top the Northwest Division, with the Grizzlies a game ahead of their division rivals Portland.

The Grizzlies are 51.00 to win the Western Conference outright and NBA Champions Golden State Warriors are the 1.36 favourites.

GSW are the favourites to claim the championship again this year at 1.60, San Antonio Spurs are rated at 13.00 and Memphis are 81.00.
