Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre welcomed his side’s 1-0 win at RB Leipzig over the weekend as they maintained a six-point lead over Bayern Munich.

Defending champions Bayern, who have won six consecutive league titles, put the pressure on BVB in their first fixture after the winter break with a 3-1 win at Hoffenheim on Friday night to halve Dortmund’s lead at the top of the table.

Favre’s men responded with a 1-0 success at Leipzig thanks to Axel Witsel’s first-half strike as BVB became the first side to beat The Bulls at the Red Bull Arena in the Bundesliga this term.

“We’re extremely satisfied,” Favre told the club’s official website. “That was a difficult game. The first half was okay, in the second half there were a lot of counters at both ends.

“We could’ve made it 2-0 because we had two major opportunities at the beginning of the second period. The team produced an excellent performance. It’s not easy here. It’s the first time this season that Leipzig have lost a home game.”

Dortmund are 1.91 to win the Bundesliga outright, Bayern can be backed at 1.85 and Borussia Monchengladbach, who are nine points off the pace, are 81.00 to take the title.

BVB take on Hannover on Saturday and can extend their lead at the top to nine points for 24 hours at least, as Bayern’s next game is a home clash with Stuttgart on Sunday.
