Luciano Spalletti admits confidence is low within the Inter Milan camp following their 1-0 defeat to rivals AC Milan in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Patrick Cutrone’s strike in the first half of extra time proved to be the difference between the two sides and the result has extended Inter’s poor run of form, as they have now lost three matches in a row in all competitions.

The Nerazzurri’s slump in form is in stark contrast to how they began the campaign, as they did not lose any of their opening 17 matches of the season.

However, the recent run of defeats has threatened to derail Inter’s season and Spalletti admits that confidence is low within his squad.

“We’ve lost a bit of confidence, we do things with less conviction in our quality,” Spalletti told Rai Sport.

“On a psychological level, we must turn a corner, realise that we ought to do more.

The players are involved, then when you can’t even convince them using facts that the situation is like this, you must find a way to make them understand.”

Inter remain very much in the hunt for a first Serie A title since 2010 as they are only five points behind leaders Napoli, although they face a huge test of their credentials when they play host to fifth-place Lazio at the San Siro on Saturday.

Spalletti’s side are priced at 2.30 to win that contest while Lazio, who did book their place in the Coppa Italia semi-finals this week, are available at 3.10 and the draw is on offer at 3.50.
