Lionel Messi Barcelona

The Argentine superstar proved to us once again why he is the greatest footballer of all time after scoring two memorable goals in a remarkable 3-0 win over Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League.

In an action-packed match that featured end to end attack from both teams, Barcelona scored all the goals. The first goal came when former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, latched on to a low cross by Jordi Alba. The Uruguayan forward scored against his old club, and that was his first Champions League goal in over a year. That single strike at half-time kept Barcelona in command.

The second half was Messi’s time. After Suarez’s effort struck the bar, the ball fell to Messi who wasted no time in scoring. The third goal of the match was a beauty of a goal. A 30-yard free-kick was launched into Alisson Becker’s top right-hand corner majestic brilliance. Dembele denied Messi an assist after he squandered an opportunity to score.

Those two goals from Lionel Messi’s took him to 600 Barcelona goals and made sure that Barcelona was in complete command of the Champions League semi-final tie against Liverpool with a 3-0 first-leg win.

Lionel Messi was left out of the last three nominees for the FIFA Best Player of the Year Award, this year that looks highly unlikely. The Barcelona legend has shown the world just how incredible he is. He has proven to all his doubters that can rise up to the occasion, in big games, at the big moments and still deliver.

He had not scored a goal against Liverpool prior to this game, but now Liverpool would never forget his name. Lionel Messi has now scored 12 goals in the Champions League this season and 46 goals in all competitions. He is way ahead of every other player in Europe.

There is no doubt that Messi is the best, he has proved that to us, once again.
