Winning a league title is a great achievement for many players. But not many players have had the opportunity to lift a league trophy. Even if they had illustrious careers, they were never able to win the League.

Here are five famous football players who have never won the league.

5. DANIELE DE ROSSI

Roma last won the trophy in the 2000/2001 season, and De Rossi made his debut a few months later. Since then 18 years have gone by, De Rossi is 35 years old, and Roma has never won the league title.

4. FERNANDO TORRES

Fernando Torres had played for so many top European clubs such as Liverpool, Athletico Madrid, and Chelsea. He has even won the Champions League, Europa League, World Cup, and European Championships twice.  Yet, he was never able to lift a league title.

3. GARY LINEKER

Lauded as one of the greatest English players of all time, Gary Lineker had a fantastic playing career. He won the Players’ Player of the Year, Footballer of the Year (twice), runner-up in the Ballon d’Or, a Golden Boot winner three times in England but he never managed to win a league title for all the clubs he played for.

2. JAMIE CARRAGHER

Jamie Carragher played for 17 years in England. His entire football career was at Liverpool, and he won two FA Cups, three League Cups, two Community Shields, one Champions League, one UEFA Cup, and two Super Cups with Liverpool. Nonetheless, he was not able to win the League trophy.

1. STEVEN GERRARD

At the top of the list is one of the greatest midfielders to come out of England. Steven Gerrard spent the majority of his football career as a midfielder for Liverpool, as also the club captain.

During the 17 years he spent at Anfield, Gerrard won two FA Cups, three League Cups, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Cup, one FA Community Shield, and one UEFA Super Cup. Gerrard was awarded as the PFA Team of the Year a record eight times. In spite of all that, he wasn’t able to win the League.
