In every Premier League season, we all have our expectations regarding each player.

However, some players can perform above your expectations and genuinely surprise you.

Let’s take a look at four Premier League players who surprised us this season.

1. Fabian Schar (Newcastle)

Rafael Benitez is an outstanding coach who excels in bringing the most out of players who have been bought for a reasonable amount. And Schar is a perfect example of that. He was purchased for 3.5 million euros last summer and was expected to be one of the most constant central defenders outside the top six. He’s been a revelation this season. Fabian Schar has impressed for the magpies in many matches and will see his stock rise.

2. Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

We all expected Sterling to play a vital role in any Manchester City success. We also believed that Pep Guardiola’s teaching and guidance would improve him again from last season. Sterling has created more goals and assists more than Mohammed Salah. He has scored 17 goals and had nine assists.

He now plays with direction and maturity. Sterling has added goalscoring to his game and that definitely surprised all of us.

3. Aaron Wan-Bissaka(Crystal Palace)

It is understandable why the fans of Crystal palace were disappointed that Wan- Bissaka wasn’t in Gareth south gate’s latest England squad, but they needn’t be. Anyways, that disappointment is evidence of just how far Wan-Bissaka has come this season. Wan-Bissaka is one of the best full backs in the Premier League this season, and he was even nominated in the PFA young players of the year award.

4. Matt Doherty (Wolves)

Doherty had a slow start to life at Wolves. Since he was bought from Irish club Bohemians in 2010, he has grown in leaps and bounds at Wolves.

He has been impressive at right back for Wolves this season and no one saw this coming, since he was usually a fringe player at the club. However, this season he has nailed his first team and surprised us this season.
