Kylian Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain secured a vital away win at Manchester United on Tuesday. That first-leg win means they have moved inches closer towards the Champions League quarter-finals after beating United 2-0 at the Old Trafford.

Two sublime second-half goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe made sure the Parisians take a secure lead back to the French capital, along with two vital away goals.

Pogba was sent off during stoppage time, after he received a second booking which rules him out of the return leg on March 6.

Here are three interesting Talking Points from Manchester Utd loss to PSG.

1. Kylian Mbappé’s pace enough to wreck Manchester United’s defense

PSG was without Edinson Cavani and Neymar, then up stepped Kylian Mbappè, who was played centrally. Mbappé eased past United’s backline, ghosting past his opponents as he pleased. It has indeed shown how valuable he is to Paris St. Germain and cemented his status as a big game player.

2. Pogba didn’t step up

Paul Pogba is obviously Manchester United’s star player. Under new interim coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he has scored eight goals and provided five assists. Thus, he was expected to step up in this big game against his hometown club.

However, that was not the case. Pogba produced a stale performance and was lacklustre throughout. He was eventually sent off after a foul on Dani Alves; he will now miss the second-leg and leave his teammates with an arduous task.

3. Solskjaer’s honeymoon period is over

In two months, Solskjaer secured ten victories and was unbeaten in all competitions. Now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s honeymoon with United has come to an end. The first defeat of his spell as United boss was a painful one, but it was a strong European side.

Solskjaer will now face the biggest test of his coaching career, as he looks to around a nearly impossible result in the second leg, without many of his key players.
