The Reds are set to welcome the German giants to Anfield on Tuesday when they play host to Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League.

It is one of the most exciting Champions League rounds of 16 clashes. Jurgen Klopp’s men need to be aware of the fact that they need to make the most of home advantage as they seek to replicate their performance in 2018.

Bayern Munich has not really been in great form this season, especially in the German Bundesliga. Here are 3 Bayern Munich weaknesses that Liverpool can exploit in their Champions League game.

1. Defending counter-attacks

Bayern Munich has been so poor at defending counter-attacks this season. Everyone knows their weakness is in defending counter-attacks. Liverpool, on the hand, is outstanding on counter-attacks and can exploit this weakness. Wingmen, Salah and Mané can score a few goals against Bayern in that manner over the two legs.

2. Their Central Defense

Sport Bild journalist, Raimund Hinko, who has reported on Bayern Munich for a long time has identified the central defense as a clear weakness that Liverpool can exploit.

Bayern usually fields a back four consisting of Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Sule, Mats Hummels and David Alaba, with Rafinha and Jerome Boateng as backups.

Their defense has let in 26 goals in 22 games in the Bundesliga.

3. The absence of Muller and Tolisso

Thomas Muller will miss the two games against Liverpool. He received a red card in the final group game against Ajax for a strong challenge on Nicolas Tagliafico. Thomas Muller is a key player for Bayern, and his absence will be a big boost for Liverpool.

Corentin Tolisso who suffered an ACL tear has been out injured since September and will miss both legs. He has not played a single Champions League game for Bayern this season. However, when he plays, he is always instrumental for them. Last season, he scored three goals in 8 matches for Bayern in the Champions League.
