The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) or Men’s Players’ Player of the Year is an annual award given to the player in the English Premier League, who is adjudged to have been the best of that year in English football.

The PFA Player of the Year nominees for the 2018/19 Premier League season has been released. Players from three top teams in England have been nominated for the prestigious award.

It is interesting to know that Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah, who won the award last season, did not make the shortlist but two of his Liverpool team-mates did.

Here are the six nominees for the PFA player of the year award.

1. Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

Raheem is a front-runner to clinch this year’s PFA player of the year award. The English forward has averaged a goal or an assist every 90 minutes in the Premier League this season. Throughout the 2018/2019 EPL season, Sterling has been absolutely fabulous.  His pace, movement and dribbling ability has been on display this seen.

2. Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Virgil van Dijk is the only non-attacking player who was nominated, and he outrightly deserves to be. Van Dijk is a solid defender, his sheer strength, courage and leadership abilities have immensely helped Liverpool this season.

Virgil van Dijk has the ability to win tackles effortlessly without diving in and hurting players. It has been speculated that many people want him to win it and he could very well win.

3. Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

Hazard is arguably the best player in English football right now. Hazard is a true world class, who has been consistent in the Premier League. He has been directly involved in more goals in the Premier Leagued this season the most of any player.

4. Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Aguero’s goalscoring record is sensational. The Argentinian striker has scored a goal every 109 minutes in the Premier League this season. His contribution to Manchester City has been abundant but is a hugely underrated contender when it comes to the Player of the Year awards.

5. Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Sadio Mane has undoubtedly been the best of Liverpool’s front three forwards this season. His strength, work rate, pace and dribbling ability has made him a fan favorite in the Premier League. He has also added the consistency to his game, so he deserves to be nominated and should probably win it.

6. Bernardo Silva (Manchester City)

Bernardo Silva has had a superb season in the Premier League. He has fit perfectly into Guardiola’s plans for Man City. He puts in a huge amount of work whenever his team is playing.

Although he is not a heavy favorite for the award, he deserves his nomination.

Who do you think will win the PFA Player of the Year Award?
