In one of the strangest transfers of the January transfer window, Barcelona has signed the controversial Ghanaian forward Kevin-Prince Boateng to the Camp Nou on a six-month loan.

After Munir El Haddadi left the Catalan giants to move to Sevilla, Barcelona was left, searching for a back-up striker. They needed a striker that would help Luis Suárez and give him some minutes off. The factors that would help them decide a striker was apparent and that reduced their options.

Barcelona wanted a player with a lot of experience in major competitions, not just in the La Liga alone.  They needed a striker who was prepared to be a substitute and play as second fiddle to Luis Suarez. The player had to be cheap too, and be someone who could be transferred easily. The Catalans desired a short-term solution to a particular problem. The solution was the former Sassuolo forward, Kevin-Prince Boateng. However, what can Boateng bring to Barcelona?

  1. His vast experience

Kevin-Prince Boateng has played for so many top teams. From starting as a youth team in Hertha to Tottenham, from Dortmund to Portsmouth, Schalke 04, AC Milan, Las Palmas, Sassuolo and now to Barcelona. This means he has played in almost all of the five top European leagues. He has also competed in the major competitions in Europe.

This gives him a wealth of experience which he will bring to the Barcelona team.

  1. His aggressive and competitive nature

Kevin Boateng has been widely known for his aggressive nature and tenacious attitude. His off-field controversies have given him more fame than his exploits on-field. Nevertheless, he has a competitive spirit and can add a bit of aggression to the Barcelona forward line.

  1. His versatility

Although Boateng comes as a centre-forward, he started as a midfielder, and he has played as a forward, but he is not a natural No 9. He can play on both flanks and from midfield. Barcelona bought him to fulfil their striking needs, but his versatility can be played up front with Luis Suarez.
