Manchester United! Undoubtedly, one of the most successful clubs in the world, the Red Devils, the best English football club, has achieved great success. Founded in 1978, the club has 20 league titles (13 since its re-signing in the Premier League), 12 football clubs, five league cups, 21 charity shields, 3 UEFA cups (21 UEFA cups) Won a total of 66 trophies. This club has not been one of the first two departments of British football since joining the football league. At the end of the 2016/17 season, they played a total of 5,557 competitive games.

All these successes are attributes of their great coaches with the likes of Sir Matt Busby, Scott Duncan and Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sadly, in recent times, the club has been a shadow of its former self this can be pinpointed to exit and retirement of club legend Sir Alex Ferguson who spent 27 years as the manager dominating the English premier league during his reign.

Since his exit in 2013, the club has had difficulty finding a manager who can fit into his shoes; five managers have been in charge of the club in the span of Six (6) years and achieved little or no success with all failing to land the EPL Title.

The Last Coach to try is Jose Mourinho who has had a good run of success in the EPL winning it thrice with league rivals Chelsea. But his Tenure at old Trafford was short lived with him constantly having clashes with players and also making various controversial statements about the Manchester-based club.

Mourinho was replaced by retired Man. United player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who was given the role of caretaker manager until the end of the Season.

Halfway done with the season and no coach has been announced to take over yet. With lots of speculations around on who the next Coach might be, This article gives you the list of 10 possible managers who would fit into the club.

  1. Michael Carrick

After leaving football at the end of last season, he was immediately added to the coaching staff under Jose Mourinho. Presumably, Carrick was believed to head the club as an interim coach until a permanent coach is appointed this summer, but Ole Solskjaer was called in to take the job.

Carrick has the advantage of knowing the current players and clubs. But he has serious drawbacks because he has no experience as a coach.

  1. Laurent Blanc

The former French defender has been out of coaching since the end of 2016 when he left PSG. Blanc Played at United in the past, has also coached the France national team and Bordeaux, he is currently without a job and is keen to get back into management. The 53-Year-old, also set a league record in Bordeaux, with an impressive winning streak of 11 games and was the league manager of the year. Laurent Blanc would be a great option due to experience with the club and also managerial experience with big teams like PSG and the French National Team.

The 53-year-old also set a league record at Bordeaux giving them an impressive 11 consecutive wins and also bagging the league’s manager of the year. He won the French league in his second season at the club and further won the 2008–09 Coupe de la Ligue which is the highest cup tournament in France. Under his leadership, Bordeaux qualified for the 2009/10 Champions league where they eventually became group leaders besting the likes of Bayern Munich and Italian giants Juventus. They were invincible and didn’t lose a match till they were eliminated in the quarter-final by French side Lyon.

He also won major trophies at PSG including the French League, Coupe de la Ligue and also took them to the champions’ league quarterfinal in 2 occasions.

  1. Antonio Conte

Conte is believed to be in the radar of Manchester United and could take over as boss at the end of the season. After dissolving his contract with top side rivals Chelsea, he rejected offers from Real Madrid over a month ago. A Premier League and FA Cup winner with the Blues, he is similar to Mourinho, which won’t play in his favour.

The 49-year-old Italian has had a successful spell at Juventus and Chelsea, winning the EPL and FA Cup in his 2year charge at the North London club, Managing 106 games W:70 L:21 D:15 with his team scoring an average of 2goals per match.

Conte has also managed big teams like Juventus where he won the Serie A trophy three consecutive times; he also managed the Italian national team and other Italian league teams.

Conte is currently without a club and is quite young and energetic which is a good quality for a club like Manchester United.

  1. Diego Simeone

Diego Simeone is not a strange name in the footballing world, believed to be one of the most sought after person in the football management world. Before becoming notorious as manager of Atletico Madrid, he won two league titles in his native Country Argentina. Immediately he took up the coaching job with the Spanish side, he worked thoroughly on them and moving them from just a Laliga club and took them to 5th in the league. He also guided them to victory in the 2012 Europa League.

Since he joined Atletico Madrid, he has reformed them to title rivals and a team to reckon on as they are now feared and respected like Real Madrid and Barcelona.

In his first full season as manager, his team bested Champions League winners Chelsea in the European Super Cup before winning the Spanish Copa del Rey in 2013. Next came Simeone’s greatest achievement as Atletico Madrid manager: winning the 2014 Spanish league title by finishing ahead of both Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Atletico’s achievements under the Argentine have been very successful with his only nightmare being narrow defeats to Real Madrid in the 2014 and 2016 Champions League finals. He is currently at Atletico Madrid, but a good contract offer might bring the Argentine to Old Trafford.

  1. Ryan Giggs

Giggs retired from active football at 40 and worked as a player-coach under David Moyes. He took full charge of the club on an interim basis from David Moyes after the Scotsman was sacked in the final four games of the 2013/14 season.

Giggs is familiar with the footballing system at old Trafford having spent over 20 years at the club and winning all trophies he played for including the UEFA champions’ league.

Although very experienced as a player, he has not taken charge of any club on a permanent basis and lacked experience as a coach and had some flaws as a soccer pundit.

He also coached the Wales National Team, winning some notable matches before consecutive losses to Denmark twice, Spain and Albania. Giggs will be a familiar face with the club, but lack of experience can be the setback. He is currently in charge of the Welsh team.

  1. Carlo Ancelotti

This is not an unfamiliar name in the coaching world; Ancelotti was able to cope with top clubs in several leagues and has experienced success in almost every country.

  1. Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

The Caretaker Boss is another option, given he has a vast knowledge of having spent time there as a player. He managed Molde, a Norwegian team nevertheless his name is still famous in Manchester United history archive for his goal which earned them the 1999 Champions league trophy at the Camp Nou.

The Norwegian who is the current caretaker manager has been in great form with United playing at best and winning all matches under their new boss.

Solskjaer is expected to leave at the end of the season according to his contract but with his great run with the club, a perfect relationship with the players and highly loved by the fans; he is in a pole position to land the job permanently.

United have won all their matches under Solskjaer, and he also has a strong relationship with club legend Ferguson who is constantly seen with him.

  1. Zinedine Zidane

He is a Real Madrid legend both as a player and coach. Zidane came into the coaching limelight when he led the Los Blancos to three consecutive Champions League trophies from the bench, three times nominee for coach of the year and won the award once.

He left Real Madrid on his own accord, a decision which left the footballing world puzzled. Zidane can take over United at the end of the season. His experience handling big stars is second to none as he enjoyed a good relationship with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Marcelo and Bale.

The three-time footballer of the year is currently coaching the Qatar National team and could join the club if he gets an interesting offer.

  1. Leonardo Jardim

Leonardo might not be famous in the footballing world but he is never to be forgotten in the French Ligue and mostly by Monaco and PSG fans. That’s because he was the man behind the Monaco team that ended the monopoly of PSG in Ligue 1, when his young and energetic team were crowned as the French Champions in 2017.

He joined Monaco in 2014 as an unpopular coach; he is infamous for switching clubs annually after spending three years with three different clubs in Portugal. Under his guidance, the footballing world saw the rise of great youngsters like Bernado Silva, Anthony Martial, and World Cup winner Mbappe.

Undoubtedly the peak of his Managerial career was the promotion of several academy players into the main team. Due to financial difficulties of the club, he was forced to sell most of his influential players and to qualify for the Champions League in 2 consecutive seasons. He also led them to the first Ligue1 tittle after 17 barren years.

Jardim has reportedly turned down several job offers since his departure from Monaco with the latest offer coming from Fulham.

  1. Mauricio Pochettino

Notably, the most preferred choice by the United Board, the Tottenham manager has a good record with the North London club. Although not big spenders in the transfer market, Tottenham have been able to compete with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City in recent years.

He would make a great team out of the current Manchester United players, but they will face a stiff challenge in getting his as he is being sorted after by European Giants Real Madrid and several European clubs.

The Spurs boss is a top target at Manchester United with sources believing that offers have been made to him.

Pochettino is currently tied to Tottenham and has a contact until 2023 at the club where he enjoys a good relationship with board members and players likewise.
