When rumours that Joseph Kalang Tie would return to Sarawak to continue his footballing career, many thought he would end up rejoining his former team, Sarawak FA.

However, the shocker was when Kuching FA, an amateur football team, managed to sign the talsimatic midfielder.

Since then, many had questioned Joseph’s move to a lower division team in Malaysian football, but Joseph had just recently spilled the beans on his move then.

That said, here’s the three key reasons why Joseph is now playing with Kuching.

Guaranteed playing time

Being a small team, Kuching was largely made up of amateur players which were not profesional football players.  Kuching didn’t need full time players because the Liga M3 itself was an amateur league by itself. However, with Kuching wanting promotion to the Liga Premier next season, the management had decided to bring in profesional players that didn’t mind playing in the lower Liga M3 league.  These players would form the team’s back bone in their quest for promotion. Aware of the situation, Joseph knew his place in the starting line-up was guaranteed hence allowing him more playing time if compared to him joining other Liga Premier and Liga Super teams which would likely bench him.

Needs to be closer to his family

According to Joseph, his wife had complications in her most recent pregnancy, and he was concerned with her condition.  With his family now growing to four members, Joseph wanted to be closer to home and Kuching provided just that.  Kuching is not only familiar to Joseph, but is also familiar to his family.  Sigining with Kuching allows Joseph to play football and also take care of his family at the same time.

Financial stability from Kuching

It is a known fact that Sarawak were also keen to have Joseph to sign with them, but Kuching’s financial stability is the last and most important reason of why Kuching managed to land the experienced midfielder instead.  Despite Sarawak’s bigger status in football, Kuching’s financial records had been stellar so far and the management had assured Joseph about their future plans and financial stability.  The security and stability Kuching provides Joseph is key in Joseph choosing Kuching over Sarawak.
