Blackburn full-back Ryan Nyambe knows his side must secure automatic promotion from League One this season.

Rovers have been chasing down the top two for the majority of the campaign and they finally moved into the automatic promotion positions for the first time this term thanks to last weekend’s 2-1 win at Fleetwood, a result that also extended their unbeaten run in the league to 16 matches, Tony Mowbray’s side are now above third-place Shrewsbury on goal difference and youngster Nyambe insists it does not matter how Blackburn maintain their place in the top two, as long as they do so for the rest of the campaign.

“Fleetwood was a massive result for us,” Nyambe told the club website. “If it’s by a point, two points, goal difference, we simply have to stay up there now.

“We have to go into every game with the same mentality that we’ve had in the last 16 games.”

The 20-year-old has also been keen to pay tribute to the Blackburn supporters, who have been one of the driving forces behind the club’s recent run of impressive form.

He added: “At home we need the support behind us. The fans have been amazing. I really can’t fault them both home and away.

We really appreciate their efforts in backing us and we’ll need them for the rest of this season.”

Blackburn will be looking to consolidate their top two placing when they play host to Northampton at Ewood Park on Saturday.

The Blue and Whites are priced at 1.44 to secure all three points from that contest, while Northampton are available at 7.50 and the draw is on offer at 4.33.
