New Leicester City defender Ricardo Pereira insists he is excited to get started after signing for the club on Saturday.

The Foxes have agreed terms on a £17.5million deal and are just waiting for international clearance.

The Portugal international has signed a five-year deal at the King Power Stadium and he passed his medical on Saturday morning.

The deal could rise to £21.9million and should be completed on June 9, just before he travels to Russia for the upcoming World Cup.

When asked about the move, Pereira told the club’s official website: “I feel very happy to be here and I can’t wait to do my best to help the team.

“The atmosphere, the fans and the football of the Premier League makes it the best in the world. I am here to support the team and to help the club to achieve its goals.”

Pereira will link up once again with coach Claude Puel after the duo worked together during his loan spell at Nice.

However, the French boss could have his hands full in trying to keep his stars at the King Power Stadium as Jamie Vardy is reportedly a target for Atletico Madrid.

The England international is currently preparing for the World Cup but Atletico are chasing a replacement for Antoine Griezmann, who is set to join Barcelona.

Vardy scored 20 goals last season although he was unable to help the Foxes qualify for Europe, with Burnley eventually snatching seventh place.

Reports claim Atletico will need to pay at least £20million for the 31-year-old but the Foxes are reluctant to let him go.
