Pierre-Emerick-Aubameyang-Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang became Arsenal’s club-record signing after joining from Borussia Dortmund before likening his playing style to that of Gunners icon Thierry Henry.

Aubameyang signed for Arsenal in a deadline day deal worth £56m, eclipsing the £46.5m that Arsene Wenger paid for Alexandre Lacazette back in July.

In a hectic day, Dortmund agreed to sell their striker after confirming a deal to sign Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi on loan for the remainder of the season, while Olivier Giroud left Arsenal for Stamford Bridge.

The 28-year-old, named 2015 African Footballer of the Year, scored 141 goals in 213 games for Dortmund, including 21 in 24 matches this season.

Aubameyang had made no secret of his desire to move on from the Bundesliga club and is delighted to become an Arsenal player. He will wear the No 14 jersey that Henry made famous at Arsenal and believes he can offer a little of what the French forward once did.

“I’m really happy to be here in this great team,” he said.

“The club has such a big history and great players like Thierry Henry. He’s an example for us strikers.

“I’m a fast player and I score goals too, like Henry a little bit. I think I have to work a lot to be like him, but I will do.

“I hope that we will come back to the top as soon as possible. I will do my best to join in.”

Aubameyang was named Bundesliga Player of the Year in 2016, while last season he pipped Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski to be the German top-flight’s leading scorer with 31 goals.

He could make his debut against Everton on Saturday. Arsenal are 1.30 to defeat the Toffees, while Aubameyang is 3.30 to score the opening goal.
