Midfielder Philippe Coutinho admits Barcelona are frustrated after allowing their unbeaten La Liga record to slip on Sunday.

The Catalan outfit had already wrapped up their 25th La Liga title prior to Sunday’s clash with Levante, but they still had their eye on making history.

Barcelona were on course to become the first team to complete a La Liga campaign without falling to a single defeat, however, their hopes were dashed at the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia.

Levante, who had won four successive games ahead of the clash, claimed a surprise 5-4 triumph to stop Barcelona from going 37 games unbeaten this season.

Coutinho bagged a hat-trick for the Blaugrana but they were always chasing the game, having fallen 2-0 behind inside the opening half hour.

Indeed, Barcelona’s unbeaten league run stretched back to the latter stages of 2016-17, having gone 43 games without a loss.

The Brazilian admits it has left a sour taste but insists the squad are still happy to have achieved their main objective of winning the title.

Coutinho said: “We’re not feeling good, we wanted to finish the LaLiga season without losing.

We played a very challenging match against a team that was very motivated. They scored five past us and deserved to win.

“It was such a difficult night. It was a historic streak for us, 43 games without losing.

We feel so bad not to get the record, but our preliminary goal was to become champions.”

Barcelona finish the La Liga campaign at home to Basque outfit Real Sociedad at Camp Nou on Sunday.
