The Celtic boss has admitted that several key players will be rested ahead of their midweek game against Partick Thistle.

As the Bhoys enter deep into the football season, matches are coming thick and fast for them as they play hosts to the Jags before they will then face Hibs at the weekend, and play their Europa League game with Cluj next week.

Neil Lennon has said he will rest a number of key players for Wednesday’s Cup clash against Partick Thistle.

The Parkhead side will play a lot of crucial games in the coming weeks, and Lennon has stated that he will freshen things up against Thistle to ease the fixture congestion.

Key players for Celtic such as the likes of Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie, and James Forrest are likely to be rested with Lennon having confirmed that Craig Gordon will play in place of Fraser Forster in between the sticks.

He said: “There’s a temptation and in some areas a need as well. It’s fair to say there will be some changes to the lineup.

“Craig (Gordon) will feature. He hasn’t done a lot wrong, but it’s vital that he gets games and it’s crucial that we keep him motivated. If anything were to happen to Fraser and he (Craig) is under-cooked, then that would be remiss of me. Not only does he need to play games, but he also deserves it.

“Obviously we have to take steer through upcoming games as well, for the likes of, (Callum) McGregor, (Ryan) Christie, (Boli) Bolingoli, (James) Forrest, and (Scott) Brown they have all been playing a lot of matches.”

Lennon also went on to provide injury updates on the fitness of Moritz Bauer and Christopher Jullien. Bauer and Jullien both sustained injuries and limped off in the weekend’s match against Kilmarnock.
