Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club (JDT FC) will create history if they win against Melaka United (MU) tonight.

This is because the Southern Tigers, as they are nicknamed, would immediately lift the Liga Super crown shall they do secure the full three points in Stadium Hang Jebat, Melaka.

The Southern Tigers stand to lift the Liga Super title for the sixth time consecutively, writing history as being the only team so far to lift the league title six times in a row.

JDT’s feat is possible as their closest challengers, Pahang FA, fell to Selangor FA last night.  Pahang surprisingly were thrashed 5-2 by Selangor FA in a match which saw Selangor leading by three goals at half time.

The Selangor victory widened the point gap between JDT and Pahang to 13, immediately pushing JDT within reach of the title with four more matches to play.

Shall JDT lift the league title tonight, their campaign however is far from over this season.

JDT currently is unbeaten in the Liga Super and if they continue their fine form in the Liga Super, it is very likely that they would be able to achieve another great feat this season, which is to be crowned ‘invincible’.

The title ‘invincible’ for a football team in Malaysia means that the team had gone undefeated for a whole season, and JDT looks almost certain to get such title with their next five matches deemed rather easy.

To date, only two teams had achieved such feat, namely Sarawak FA in 2013 and Kedah FA in 1993.  Even then, such feat is nothing compared to what JDT stands to achieve if they finish the 2019 season as invincible champions.

This is since both previous invincible teams, Sarawak and Kedah, were champions of the second-tier football league in the country, while JDT would be crowned as such in the top league in the country shall they go undefeated.

With that said, it would be interesting to see if any other Malaysian football team would be able to break JDT’s dominance because as it seems today, JDT is breaking its own records in Malaysia while other teams can only look at them with envy.
