Brazil midfielder Fred feels he has joined the ‘biggest club in the world’ after completing his move from Shakhtar Donetsk to Manchester United.

The Red Devils completed a deal said to be worth approximately £50m for the 25-year-old on Thursday.

Fred has signed a five-year contract, with the option to extend for a further year, at Old Trafford.

Fred, real name ‘Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos’, missed the Brazil’s World Cup opening draw against Switzerland with an ankle injury but is expected to be part of the squad to face Costa Rica.

He believes the chance to work under Jose Mourinho at United was simply too good to be turned down.

“This is the biggest club in the world and I am delighted to be a part of this amazing team.

To work with Jose Mourinho, who has won so many trophies in his time as a coach, is an opportunity not to be missed,” Fred told United’s website.

“I cannot wait to get started and to meet my new team-mates. I would like to thank everyone at Shakhtar Donetsk for everything they have done for me over the past five years.

“This is a very exciting time for me with my focus now fully on the World Cup with Brazil.”

Having spent time at Inter Milan, Fred made 156 appearances for Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar since joining them in 2013, scoring 14 times.

United are 7.00 to dislodge neighbours Manchester City as Premier League champions next season.
