We give our predictions for the 2019 AFCON Round of 16 Matches.
The 2019 African Cup of Nations is fully underway and in full motion. A total of Twenty-four teams made it to the tournament in Egypt, but after 12 days of action, eight teams have been eliminated out of the competition. Now there are just sixteen teams who still fight with the dream of becoming African champions.
In this year’s AFCON the two top teams from each group gained automatic qualification the round of 16 stage, while four teams became the third best teams across the groups.
The round of 16 matches will commence on Friday the 5th of July, which will see the first two games of the round of 16 played. Two games will be played on the 6th, 7th and 8th to determine the eight teams which will make it to the quarter finals.
Here are our predictions for the 2019 AFCON round of 16 matches.
Uganda vs. Senegal
This is going to be a tough match, but Senegal will come out victorious.
Morocco vs. Benin
Group winners Morocco will win this encounter over Benin.
Egypt vs. South Africa
Hosts Egypt are clear favorites to win this tie and we expect them to do so effortlessly.
Nigeria vs. Cameroon
This is definitely the big match feature of the round of 16 matches. The two West African giants share a rich football history and strong rivalry. Nigeria should emerge victorious, although with a slim win.
Madagascar vs. DR Congo
Madagascar came to the tournament as minnows, but have showed the world their quality. They should emerge victorious over DR Congo.
Algeria vs. Guinea
Equatorial Guinea have not been in the best of form in this tournament, while Algeria have been in blistering form. Algeria will win this tie.
Mali vs. Ivory Coast
This is another fascinating round of 16 match. Mali have been outstanding in the tournament, while Ivory Coast have not been very convincing. I expect Mali to win this game.
Ghana vs. Tunisia
The Black stars of Ghana are a strong team to watch in this tournament. They will eliminate Tunisia and reach the quarterfinals.
