West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Pardew believes new loan signing Daniel Sturridge will prove his worth as he tries to help the club avoid relegation.

The Baggies, 2.20 to go down, confirmed the signing of Sturridge on Monday after he turned down offers from Inter Milan and Newcastle United.

Sturridge reportedly chose to stay close to his family in the Midlands and the prospect of regular football was too hard to turn down for the 28-year-old.

The England international insists the move felt like the ‘right fit’ as he tries to impress England coach Gareth Southgate in the coming months.

A place in the World Cup squad could be up for grabs and Pardew insists the move is a real ‘coup’ for the club.

“I hope our fans can understand that we are fighting to stay in the Premier League, not just on the pitch but in the market place as well,” Pardew said.

“This is a big coup for us and I speak for my staff and my players and say ‘thank you’ to Daniel for agreeing to assist us in league and cup.

“He has fantastic talent and will strengthen our ambitions on both fronts.”

Sturridge joins West Brom during a four-match unbeaten run but the Baggies remain 19th in the Premier League table.

He will be hoping to be in the squad for Wednesday’s clash with Manchester City where the Citizens are the 1.15 favourites. The draw is 8.00, while West Brom are the huge outsiders at odds of 19.00.
